As a school we decided in April 2010 to introduce our own catering provision. This allows us to provide our children with healthy, balanced meals, using fresh ingredients that are sourced locally.
We feel that providing high quality meals is vitally important as it has been shown that this has been shown that this is better for children and improves their ability to work in the afternoons.
By running our own catering provision, this also allows us to make school meals a more pleasurable experience for the children. At lunchtime children at Christ Church enjoy their meals off proper plates and bowls.
As a school we commit to making sure we provide your child with:
- A balanced meal, meeting all required nutritional standards
- A meal where more of the cost is spent on the ingredients,
- Ingredients that are predominately fresh, not frozen
- Food that is locally sourced
- Greater variety including special themed lunches
- Choices within each menu, and
- A dining experience that is more like home
The school menus operate on a three weekly rotation, also changing to reflect the seasons. The children have the opportunity to influence our menus through their school council.
The links for the most up to date menus, can be found on the home page of the website.
As a school we also believe in promoting eating together. We therefore welcome parents, grandparents and carers to come into the school to share a meal with their child on a regular basis throughout the year. We also provide themed meals throughout the year.
Healthy Schools Status:
We are proud to have achieved Healthy Schools Status at school. We encourage children to make healthy choices throughout the school day.
They are allowed to bring a water bottle to school which they can keep in their classroom. However, this must ONLY contain water. Fizzy drinks, squash and flavoured water are not allowed in school. Milk is provided for the children at lunchtimes and children in Yr1-Yr6 can purchase milk or water bottles at break time for 25p.
